IT WAS THE LARGEST NON-NUCLEAR BLAST EVER RECORDED......
“WE PAY TRIBUTE TO THEIR SERVICE THAT ALLOWS US TO
LIVE. THEY WENT TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT AND SHEILD
THE MOST VULNERABLE. THE MISSION WAS INHERENTLY
DANGEROUS, AND THEY HAD THE COURAGE TO BE INVLOVED IN
SOMETHING BIGGER THAN THEMSELVES... BEIRUT WAS THE
FIRST BATTLEFIELD IN THE GLOBAL WAR ON TERRORISM”
- Maj. Gen. David F. Bice,
Marine Corps Inspector General
October 23, 2004, Camp Lejeune, NC
Members of 1st Battalion 8th Marines Gaming group would like to
pass on our thanks and praise to all of those that have served and
given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We remember this day,
23 October 1983 for it was our dear friend Andy Stevens that used
this day to remember the fallen Marines and use the Name
1st Battalion 8th Marines as our group name for Playing Operation
Flashpoint more than 7 years ago. Sadly we lost Andy on December
1st, 2005 as he himself had given the ultimate sacrifice for his country
and was killed in Iraq along with 9 others of his group. Some of us at 1/8th
got together to take this group photo in game and were going to post
the names of those that were able to show but decided that its not just
some of us that thank all those that served but all of us here at 1/8th.
Again, Thank You. God Bless America.

Andy 'Warpig' Stevens Also let us not forget that on December 1st 2005, 10 U.S. Marines were killed near the Iraqi city of
Falluja during a promotion ceremony. The Marines were in a unused flour mill on the outskirts of the city to celebrate the promotion of three soldiers. As the ceremony ended, the Marines dispersed and one of them is thought to have stepped on a buried pressure plate linked to explosives that caused the devastating blast. The death toll was the largest suffered by U.S. soldiers in Iraq in a single incident since August of 2005. Some of the Marines Killed were from 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force. Sgt. Andy Stevens, 29, of Tomah, Wisconsin was one of those Marines. Andy better known to us as WARPIG was one of the founders of the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines gaming site. No words can described how much Andy will be missed by all of us here at 1/8th, but let it be known that he will never be forgotten. Because of Andy's work at getting 1/8th off the ground and activated, it has now become what a lot of gamers refer to as their second home. 1/8th has now been around for more then 5 years and has brought many people together playing games such as Operation Flashpoint, Pacific Fighters, Battlefield series, Vietcong, World of Warcraft, City of Heros and many others.
Andy's memory will continue for a long time to come through this site by continuing to bring together friends from around the world.

Sunday, 23 October 1983 |
United States Marine Corps Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. Let us not forget this date for this is where this squad got
its name from.
"At approximately 0622 on Sunday, 23 Oct. 1983, the
Battalion Landing Team headquarters building in the Marine Amphibious Unit
compound at Beirut International Airport was destroyed by a terrorist bomb. The
catastrophic attack took the lives of 241 Marines, sailors and soldiers and
wounded more than 100 others. The bombing was carried out by one lone terrorist
driving a yellow Mercedes Benz stake-bed truck that accelerated through the
public parking lot south of the BLT headquarters building, where it exploded.
The truck drove over the barbed and concertina wire obstacle, passed between two
Marine guard posts without being engaged by fire, entered an open gate, passed
around one sewer pipe barrier and between two others, flattened the Sergeant of
the Guard's sandbagged booth at the building's entrance, penetrated the lobby of
the building and detonated while the majority of the occupants slept. The force
of the explosion [12,000 pounds] ripped the building from its foundation. The
building then imploded upon itself. Almost all the occupants were crushed or
trapped inside the wreckage.""
Let us not forget
